About Us
Who is behind Famaka? We are three sisters, Fabiola, Martha and Karla, who all happen to share a love for collecting dolls (even though Karla will not really admit it . . . he he). We grew up playing with Barbie. We had fun redressing them, and styling their hair; although, we were not very good, but you know what they say "practice makes perfect." :)
We stopped playing with Barbie because we picked up other hobbies like; making our very own jewelry, and sewing clothes and what not. Yet, we always felt something was missing. We could not figure out what it was until our dad came home from the Goodwill where he bought us a Native American Barbie. Our dad always buys us stuff to create new designs (i.e. dolls, fabrics, and other things).
A few years ago we discovered that we could alter our dolls to make them unique to give them their own personality. We did this by repainting, re-rooting and redressing them with outfits that we made especially for them. Luckily for us our mom taught us how to sew. She always encouraged us to be creative.
In late 2003, we found other people who share a love for Barbie. This was when we joined the Barbie Fan Club there we met a lot of wonderful people, and we made some good friends. If it weren't for the club we would have never met our very dear friend, Claudia, from Pink Ponytail Presents (a great Barbie shop). We always look forward to our visits to Claudia's store! We do not go over just to shop; we have spent many hours talking about all the things that are going on in our lives.
Claudia has been there for us since we first met her. We were at a difficult place and time in our lives, and she could not have been more supportive. And for that we will always be grateful, she has been a true friend, who has stuck by us through our ups and downs. We like to think of her as our fourth sister ;).
During one of our visits she surprised Fabiola with a gift . . . it was Red Moon her very first Silkstone. From that moment on we fell in love with the Silkstones, so we started collecting a few of them.
However, when the Model of the Moment Barbies came out it was love at first sight. Our collection focus suddenly and rapidly shifted to the Model Muse dolls. They were our main inspiration to start modifying dolls again since there wasn't that many Models back then. After we started making our own fashions and jewelry designs we wanted and loved to give out goodies to our Barbie buds.
When we first started sewing and modifying our dolls we realized that we had a great opportunity to bring in our signature trendy fashion style to the doll world. No other designer was doing it, so we brought in this NEW Style when we introduced our torn jeans, crop tops, and mini-dresses.
We recently got the Fashion Royalty fever! And we were fortunate enough to receive our first Fashion Royalty doll as a gift from our good friend Terri (from the BFC). We had always wanted to collect them but they were so exclusive we missed out on them.
Fast forward to the present, and we finally got our website up and running with a lot of encouragement from our friends (a special thanks to Claudia for giving us that extra push and kick on the butt, LOL!).
We would also like to give a special thanks for all the advice and support to our good friend Tina from Dollyhair.com She has been nothing but wonderful to us.
In case anyone is wondering why we chose the name Famaka for our site name: well, it is a mix of our names, Fabiola Martha Karla. We love working as a team, and we always talk before making any important decisions, and that is why we decided to combine our names for this site.
Please keep checking Famaka.com for all the New and Exciting things to come! We are currently going to college to get our BSN in nursing as well as getting a minor in art.
Cheers,
Famaka Sisters :)
